I have had visions of being in business for myself since 1980. I worked as an assistant manager in a woman’s clothing boutique in Abilene, Texas. I loved working with the clothes and with the women who came in to shop. During that time, I came up with the concept of having a boutique with a coffee shop, where women would gather and get community support, and have an opportunity to feel heard as they traversed the difficulties on their life path.
When I look back to that time, I realize one of my strengths has been to recognize community needs and foresee trends. What’s funny to me about this earlier time is I did not even drink coffee, and the only place people went to congregate was in the bars or church. Now, there are coffee shops on every corner here in Portland, and some of those coffee shops have other kinds of businesses attached to them. It was also 17 year before I became a psychotherapist.
I have this innate knowing of what individuals long for, maybe just the primal need to be in community for safety, reproduction, and for evolution. I recognize trends on more of an energetic and intuitive level, and not in a linear way.
From 1980 until 1996, I worked in various forms of businesses. From corporations, to sole practitioner’s. From fashion, to insurance, to legal, to non-profits and others. I have gained a lot of knowledge around what works, what gets in the way, and how to connect with your inner vision and passion for what one wants to bring forth in the world.
